As The Minimalists said in their new Netflix documentary the hunger for more and the hunt for happiness and filling up with stuff make us miserable and it doesn’t make us happy.
Buying your way to happiness doesn’t work because the more we have, the more we want.
What can you buy when you get your new pay check? Planning your future depending on your next salary.
They also said that for over a century advertisements have been around us, shaping us and our needs.
There are more options, more stimuliser and more pressure from the media.
Yet only 3 in ten people in Britain are happy according to a survey from blue eCig.
Included in the top 20 of their worries are savings and their financial future, debts, work targets and goals.
Dr Andrea Umbach, wrote: “Millennials are known for valuing experiences over materialistic things. When they have the income to do so, they want to travel, be entertained and take care of themselves.”
Blake Smith, Founder and CEO of Cladwell, understands that minimalism is just a re-prioritisation of consumption and people tend to prioritise technology and entertainment over clothing.
Smith started Cladwell in 2014 and partners with retailers to help customers find clothes that match their closets.
“We started Cladwell wondering what it would look like for a company to align with the needs of people each day first, then selling clothes second,” said Smith.
One day he realised that styling services were not focusing on what people really want when they shop.
“There is a fundamental misalignment between what retail is trying to accomplish, and what humans are trying to accomplish each morning,” he added.
The $245.3K worth company aligns with the needs of people each day first and selling clothes second.
“If you want to have the latest technology, a lifestyle that you see on social media, and still pay the bills, the money has to come from somewhere.”
“Clothes are a way of telling yourself and others that you are valuable. If we can increase that feeling each morning, it can genuinely affect your life,” said Smith.
On Twitter Chelsea Webster wrote: “You select items that you have in your wardrobe and every day it gives you outfit options. It helps me to see what I'm not wearing, and track how many times I've worn it. would recommend whole heatedly.”
Focusing on what you own first and see what you need second will change the way you finance your life in the long run.
